This paper deals with the applicability of a precision shearing method named "Opposed ides shearing process" to cast materials. Through the observation of specimen during working, a new mechanism of shearing peculiar to brittle materials was clarified. The Influence of working parameters on the quality of sheared edge was investigated in detail and the optimum selection of these parameters to suppress the fracture was discussed for each material. In comparison with other processes, the accuracy of sheared edge by this process was found to be much higher than conventionally blanked one and almost equal to that by shaving process.
