Wider application of FEM in the simulation of industrial stamping processes requires the quality of numerical results to be confirmed experimentally. In particular, wrinkling simulation lacks a benchmark test against which various FEM packages could be verified. In this work, a deep drawing process was used to investigate the initiation and evolution of wrinkles in conical cups. The shape and distribution of wrinkles was determined using a dedicated measurement rig. The two FEM packages testd were ITAS3D and ABAQUS/Explicit. The numerical results of wrinkling obtained by both codes agreed well with each other and also reasonably well with experimental findings.
