摘要

In this paper reported is the fabrication of steel-sheathed nickel/titanium shape memory rods by explosive powder compaction and subsequent cold forward extrusion. The macro- and microscopic features and the soundness of the product at the various stages of fabrication are indicated by using microhardness testing, optical and SEM metallography and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS). Load-punch travel diagrams were obtained during extrusion of compacted billets. Microstructural changes and possible defects of the extruded rods are discussed with the aim in mind of fabricating sound components.
