As a normal kind of phosphaglyceride, lecithin is a main norm of prostaglandin disease and used as a main component of many health foods. So, the determination of lecithin becomes more and more important'11. In our experiments.it was observed that the fluorescence of the Tb~(3+)-Tiron complex was seriously quenched by lecithin and this can be used to detect lecithin sensitively. Using the quenching of the luminescence of trivalent lanthanides or their complexes to determine lecithin has not been reported in the literature. A Model RF-5000 spectrofluorimeter(Shimadzu, Japan) was used to determine the fluorescence spectra, with 5.0 nrn bandpass of excitation and emission and 1X1 cm quartz cell.
