The world's first commercial contract for continuous spoolable composite pipes was recently awarded to the Norwegian pipe manufacturer NAT Compipe AS. The delivery is 14.6 km (9.1 miles), 3", 380 bar Compipe~ direct R pipe delivered in lengths of 8.1 and 6.5 km. stolt Comex Seaways will install the pipe at Statoil's Asgard field in September 199. The lines will be used for methanol injection at subsea satellite wells. With this, high-pressure spoolable composite pipes are accepted as an alternative material to steel for this application. Based on this commercial break through for the spoolable composite pipe technology, the likelihood of other developments like flowines, dynamic service lines and composite coiled tubing being successfully developed and qualified are increasing. For these applications high-pressure composite pipe offer a protential solution for deep-water developments, service and operations.
