This paper contains a study of gravity retaining walls designed using traditional global safety factors and partial safety factors according the system of Structural Eurocodes. The study assumes that the design is conditioned by sliding of hte wall along the interface with the foundation soil. Calculations are presented considering staic and seismic conditions. Two distinct ways of applying partial safety factors are experimented. For each ase the correspondent global safety factor is calculated and compared with the range commonly used in practice. Some provisional conclusions are extracted.
