An approach for reducing ground excitations of a structure is presented. It is based on teh impeding behaviour of a soil layer over bedrock. This behaviour occurs when the frequencies of waves are lower than the cut-off frequency of the soil layer.Since in reality it is not always possible to have bedrock at a at a crrtain location,a concrete block as artificial bedrock is used. For the numerical analyses the structure and soil are described by finite element and boundary elemnet method, respectively.the numerical and experimental results show that the soil vibrations can be reduced drastically.Since the ground motions that excite the base of stuctures are already reduced the response of structures thereby decrease.
