In the past decade, computers have played a great role in power system protection. In the view of numerious benefits of digital relaying in terms of economics, performance, reliability and flexibility, significiant efforts have been made in the development of digital relaying algorithms. The major emphasis of this work is to be on the description of the software and hardware of the prototype relay. The present relay desing is tested with a new algorithm by using reference harmonic signals.
