Pilot demonstration of the sequential anaerobic-aerobic bioremediation of explosives-contaminated soil

A pilot-scale demonstrationof a proprietary two stage anaerobic-aerobic treatment process for the bioremediation of explosives contaminated soil termed the TOSS process is described. Approximately 120 tons of soil contaminated with 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), and octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX) from the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant (JAAP) was used in the demonstration.
