Pleurotus ostreatus, Trametes versicolor, Irpex lacteus, and Bjerkandera adusta were screened from 95 strains of ligninolytic fungi using decolorization of synthetic dyes and further characterized for their growth and biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and synthetic dyes. All four species grew fast on agar media, however, only I. lacteus and P. ostreatus colonized soil. These two fungi significantly decolorized 9 out of 11 synthetic dyes tested on agar media.
