Detailed simulations of the Ni-like soft x-ray laser are presented for the target elements Sm, Gd along with preliminary results for Ta. A 1.5D combined two fluid atomic code is used to self-consistently solve the hydrodynamic / atomic physics problem inherent in laser pumped solid target systems. The code uses a detailed description of the Cu-like and Ni-Jike ion stages. Collisional pumping rates for these levels are obtained from fully relativistic distorted wave calculations available in the literature. The remaining ion stages are treated using the screened hydrogenic approximation. All ion stages are treated using a collisional radiative model.
