Since the pioneer works of J. J. Rocca et al. in the development of discharge pumped soft X-ray lasers, different experimental set-up have been proposed as fast capillary discharge drivers. We develop at GREMI a fast high voltage pulsed generator driving a z-pinch capillary discharge capable of producing a plasma highly emittive in the XUV. This work reports the studies of a Blumlein pulse forming line generator and the emission of the capillary discharge which is coupled to it. Rate of rise time current pulses as high as 7.5×10~(11) A/s have been achieved. Current waveforms are compared with numerical calculations. Argon time-integrated spectra show that highly ionized argon states (up to Ar VIII) have been produced at rather low value of stored energy.
