Fire and furance testing of transportation packages for radioactive materials: facilities and measurements

This document provides background and information for performing a physical thermal test, using either a fire or a furnace, on transportation packages for radioactive material. Test conditions for the thermal test is specified in Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 71, Facilities for performing thermal accident test conditions for all Type A and Type B packages for the transport of radioactive material specified in Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 71 are described. In addition, the thermal measurements and instrumentation for characterization of the accident tests and the package response to the accident heat flux are discussed.
