Comparison of experimetnal and lefm estimates, using weight functions, of fatigue crack propagation in three types of end closure

Fatigue experiments by Gray and Pick (1977) on model high pressure vessels with threaded end closures, and by Grubisic and Sonsino (1979, 1982) on model vessels with plug or lug end closures, provide some data on the initiation and propagation of radial-circumferential cracks from the root of the first vessel thread or from the inside corner of the lug or rim supporting the end plug.
