Traditionally, safety has been viewed by businesses as a necessary evil - something we do for hmanitarian reasons to protect employees and as a legal requirement. The regulations established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) over the last 30 years have mandated specific procedures and safeguards for workers. Threats of an OSHA inspection at a plant or project motivated employers to establish safety programs. Today, however, we have the opportunity to incorporate safety into management providing a competitive edge to keep costs as low as possible and providing leverage when competing for new business. Whether a company is large or small, safety can determine success or failure.
