Nuclear Island (NI) fill concrete is an essential element in the design and construction of nuclear power plants that are founded on rock. To specify the various factors required in the concrete placement process, such as mix formula, lift thicknesses and delay time between lifts, would be difficult without taking full advantage of experience and lessons learned from constructing other similar projects. This paper collects the most relevant points of the NI fill concrete design and testing from plants currently under construction and summarizes them in one single document. The information presented will help designers of NI fill concrete address licensing concerns on the subject, and make the final product capable of supporting the various loads from the NI structures.
