PARALLEL CHROMATOGRAPHY: A NEW PROCESS CHROMATOGRAPHY TOOL

Column switching techniques have been used in on-line Process Gas Chromatography (PGC) since it's early days in the 1950's. In later years column switching has been referred to as multidimensional chromatography. In the majority of cases, column switching has been limited to one column set attached to a single detector. This is primarily due to limitations of space, cost and instrument capability. This paper describes a new development in column switching techniques thartakes advantage of new capabilities that are now available to the process chromatographer. This new development has been named "Parallel Chromatography" and offers the end user simplicity, speed, standardization, and reduced maintenance, which lead to an overall reduction in cost of ownership.
