Pressing Knots and Shives with Dewatering Screw Presses

Recently four paper will have installed screww presses to dewater knots & shives. This is an unusual application for screw presses in the pulp and paper industry. All four installations have been successful in achieving their objectives. It is interesting that objectives have varied considerably. At the fort james Naheola mill, the principal justification was chemical and fiber recovery, with important sub-objectives of reducing load in the wastewater treatmetn plant; elimination of a potential run-off conidtion; and producing a desirable hog fuel for the power plant.
