摘要

The purpose of this work is to explain and demonstrate the value of oxidation reduction potential (ORP) as a method for monitoring oxidation of plastic pipe in experimental and service applications. An overview of instrumentation theory is given and its application to hot water chlorine testing is examined. Current work studying the oxidative effects of chlorine on plastic pipe lifetime are shown to be a linear function of ORP rather than parts per million chlorine. The use of ORP at elevated temperature also indicates that the oxidizing capability of chlorine is not altered by elevated temperature testing conditions.
