Fracture mechanisms in a variety of thermoplastic polyolefm (TPO) blends are investigated using the double-notch four-point-bend Charpy impact (DN-4PB-CI) test, followed by microscopy observations. It is found that the operative impact fracture mechanisms in TPO systems are strongly affected by rubber type and temperature of testing. The detailed fracture mechanisms in a variety of commercially available and experimental TPOs will be presented. Approaches for making high rigidity, low temperature impact fracture resistant TPOs will also be discussed.
