Methane adsorption isotherms of some Indian coals (dry and moist) of rank varying from sub-bituminous A to medium volatile bituminous have been evaluted. The relative merits of four different models viz Langmuir, Brunauer, Emmett and Teller, Dubinin-Radushkevich and Dubinin-Astakhov have been compared. All four models gave good fits to the experimetnal data, with mean relative errors less than 13
