The CANSOLV ? System SO2 scrubbing technology is an emerging regenerable process foreconomical, highly selective capture of SO2 from gas streams, down to a few ppm if desired. Ingas production and sweetening plants (GTU's), the technology can be used to control sulfuremissions from sulfur recovery units (SRU's), cogeneration units, and power boilers. The pure,water saturated SO2 byproduct from all these sources can be fed into a new or existing SRU forconversion to sulfur. Process costs with the CANSOLV? System technology are largelyinsensitive to the concentration of Soz in the feed gas. Therefore, high-sulfur, low-value fuelssuch as GTU flash gas can be burned in place of more valuable sweetened product natural gas.SRU tail gas cleanup with CANSOLV ? System technology competes with current known BACTtechnologies (e.g. ARCO, SCOT, BSR-Arnine). However, the CANSOLV? System technologyoffers distinct technical and economic advantages for certain sulfur recovery situations.
