Offshore wellsite training of cementing equipment operators is slow, expensive and inconvenient. This poster session presents a computerized cementing equipment training simulator that compresses students' learning curves while they learn to operate the equipment effectively. Like a flight simulator for aircraft pilots, the cementing equipment simulator challenges students in a variety of wellsite situations, acquaints students with correct and incorrect equipment operation, and documents students' competency using the equipment.The simulator uses cementing hardware, installed on the same type skid used for live jobs, to train students in every phase of offshore cementing without mixing, pumping, and disposing of cement. Gauges and controls in the simulator are actual, working controls in the same location and orientation as in well site units. Equipment failures, supply interruptions, or well problems occurring during any phase of a job can be simulated from the instructor's console. Instructors can set up routine or unique cement jobs in either automatic or manual mode and then monitor students' responses. The simulator's computer (with mathematical models of actual equipment) monitors students' input, calculates the response, and transmits corresponding data to gauges and actuators so students can see how the well site equipment would respond. Instructors can then document student's levels of competency for certification.
