The northern Tarim area is characterized by difficult surface geological conditions and complex sedimentary features of its reservoirs. We used high resolution seismic acquisition, high accuracy static correction, full 3D data processing, high accuracy velocity field techniques to create a set of highly accurate seismic exploration procedures. We solved the difficult problems with deeply-buried small relief traps in the northern Tarim area and achieved very successful exploration results.Now, small amplitude structures (20 to 30 m) in depths of 4000 to 6000 m could be found and delineated. The success rate of drilling on interpreted and predicted traps was 68%. The relative accuracy of the depths predicted by seismic data could be up to 0.1% in the producing oil fields.
