Purneftegaz produces from a wide range of sandstone reservoirs, some of which are entering the early stage of field maturity. Systematic data acquisition and detailed planning for production and reservoir management purposes are key activities in the ongoing engineering effort.New technologies of reservoir studies, using modern computer systems and geoscience software, are deployed to better define hydrocarbon reserves and monitor their recovery. However, the models built earlier are not satisfactory for a large scale reservoir simulation.Revision of the available geological models was made using a new technology that was based on interpretation of sedimentology derived from well logs. This was integrated with seismic interpretation and regional geological data, allowing a reliable geological history model and a system for stratigraphic correlation to be obtained. It was established that tectonic inversion in the clinoform sequence resulted into formation of lateral accretion bodies which are associated with pay zones. Sand bodies occur along clinoform slopes and are separated by shaly layers. Basic sedimentation cycle sands pinch out toward the east, while they get replaced with shales toward the west. The new geological model was the basis for production analysis and hydrodynamic simulation, which in turn permitted changes to be made in the development system aiming to improve production.
