General Electric has successfully sited ten open interventional superconducting magnets at research hospitals in seven different countries. The superconducting magnet operates at 10 K via conduction cooling and has coils which are wound with niobium-tin (Nb_3Sn) tape. The unique open architecture design of these magnets allows meical access to the patient during the imaging process. These systems are being utilized in a variety of image guided medical applications. A review of some of the design, operation, and shimming features on this unique magnet will be presented.
