In superconducting magnets for Maglev vehicles, the heat load occurs mainly due to electromagnetic disturbances during the train operation. The heat load at liquid helium temperature (4K) needs to be reduced within the capacity of the on-borard refrigerator. For commercial use, magnets should be operated with no supply of both liquid helium and liquid nitrogen. To meet the requirement, we have been developing the new type on-board GM refrigeration (GM refrigerator application) system. In this paper, the reducing method of the heat load in the superconducting magnets and the test results are described. In addition, and test results by the mock-up model of a new refrigeration system are described.
