The present study deals with an experimental as well as numerical investigation of steady laminar mixed convection heat transfer to water in a horizontal concentric annulus. An attempt has been made to study the entrance region effect. The thermal boundary condition chosen is that of uniform heat flux at the inner wall and an adiabatic outer wall. The basic numerical procedure used is the SIMPLE algorithm [1] which uses the finite difference method for solving the momentum and energy equations. The investigations reveal that the entrance length for combined free and foced convection is very small. The predicted Nusselt numbers compare well with the experimental results.
