Based on theory of wind-driven oceanic circulation, a gap boundary layer model considering the bottom friction effect within the gap is constructed to study the influence of the gap in western boundary on the Western Boundary Current (WBC). The results show that the gap makes the WBC deform and extend westward, and a loop current from to west of the gap. In the mean while, the current east of the gap intensifies. The gap boundary layer model is applicable to the sea region near the Luzon Strait. The conclusions we obtain are helpful to understand the dynamics mechanism of the formation of the Kuroshio Loop current and the anticyclonic eddy east of the Luzon Strait.
