The present work investigated the evolution of exhaust gases from an underventilated liquid hexane pool fire inside a reduced-scale compartment with and without Douglas fir plywood hung 0.05 m below the ceiling. The work focused on the production of carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbons (UHC) inside the compartment and the transport and oxidation of the fire exhaust gases in a hyallway adjacent to the burning compartment. The presence of the wood in the upper layer was seen to increase CO concentrations inside the compartment by as much as 3.1
