The united states environmental protection agency's SF_6 emissions reduction partnership for electric power systems: an opportunity for industry

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF_6) is an extremely important gaseous dielectric used by the electric power industry in circuit breakers, gas-insulated substations, and switchgear. SF_6 is also a very potent and persistent greenhouse gas that contributes to global climate change. Due to this second characteristic, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is launching a voluntary SF_6 Emissions Reduction Partnership for Electric Power Systems. The partnership will work with the electric power industry to pursue thereby reducing the threat of global climate change. EPA plans to have the partnership operating by the Fall of 1998.
