A major challenge to the PSA formulation chemist lies in the selection of an appropriate surfactant in addition to a base emulsion. The preferred surfactant is one that can be incorporated at low levels to deliver a significant reduction in dynamic surface tension and generate low levels of foam with minimal disruption of adhesive properties.The laboratory evaluation of emulsion PSA rheology must take place at shear rates that approximate those generated on the targeted commercial coating equipment.
