The State of the Science in Supported Precious Metal Powder Catalyst Manufacturing

Supported precious metal powder catalysts are essential components of many specialty chemical and pharmaceutical processes. By accelerating desired reaction rates, catalysts allow such processes to be economically viable.Powdered catalysts can be manufactured in a multitude of ways. The method employed can affect both the chemical and physical properties of the catalyst which can affect catalyst activity, selectivity and stability (1). As with chemical manufacturing processes, catalyst manufacturing processes must also be economically viable and environmentally responsible. The tools and pathways used by a catalyst supplier in the design, scale-up and manufacture of catalyst formulations that satisfy such requirements will be discussed.
