The mineralogy of High Alumina Cements (HAC's) influences the application properties, like setting time, strength development or application temperature for refractorty uses. The analysis of the quantitative phase composition of HAC's enables the control of application properties of the cement, which is often used in complex formulated building materials. The Rietveld method is a technique, based on XRD pattern, that allows the quantification of phase assemblages by fitting a calculated XRD pattern to a measured XRD pattern. The crystallochemical data for developing a Rietveld control file were worked out on residues from different dissolution techniques. Insoluble residues from HC1-, KOH/Sugar- and Salicylic acid/Methanol-solutions were investigated. A new Titanium phase with the estimated composition of 4CaO~*2FeO~*TiO_2 is described. The crystallochemical composition of the main phases of a iron rich HAC were studied using SEM analysis of a polished section of grain mounts. The results of the SEM investigation proof the Rietveld refinement of the iron rich HAC.
