A Stadium with prestressed suspension roof is now completed in Kumamoto, Japan, Prestressed suspension structure system is adopted to make the roof light and pleasant. The roof structure is designed to be suspended from 59.7 m height tubular steel towers doubling as floodlight towers. The distinctive feature of this structure system is the prestresses introduced into the main steel arc at field side. 300 tons prestresses are introduced at both end of the main arc, consequently suspension cables and stay cables are tensioned inevitably. These tensions give stiffness to the roof structures which consist of slender steel girders and cables and make them stable against any external forces such as strong winds or earthquake motions.
