As a part of the modernisation program of Rautaruukki Raahe Steel a new workshop for ladle lining was taken in use 1996. Monolithic ladle linings are nade using an efficent batch mixer combined to a double piston type pump feeding the self flowing material into the ladle. Mixing and pumping are controlled by a PLC resulting an exact material and water amounts. Same PLC is used to control three electrical drying units. Information of ladle lining are then transfered to the steel plant process computer. A laser profiler integrated into the ladle well filling station is used to control the lining wear during ladle cycling.
