Environmental self-audits and enforcement in steel minimills-an EPA initiative

Steel production "minimills, which make rolled steel from scrap using electric arc furnaces, have emerged in recent years as a major industry force. Today, minimills pose significant competition for traditional large-scale integrated steel plants, producing an ever-growing percentage of domestic steel. With an increased pace of production, and more plants coming on line in the future, EPA has become increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of this industry sector.
