Development of materials and designs for advanced refractory casting systems

Refractory material, Product and System developmets provide vital techniques to achieve the essential improvements in technical properties and operational cost reductions on a Modern Continuous Casting operation. Examples of recent developments have been chosen to illustrate how various combinations of Key Technologies are utilised to achieve required performance. Improved SEN Slag Band design; Introduction of a Precision Flow Control system; and Replacement of Fibrous Insulation by Foamed Spray Coating, show how the different Key Factors including Raw Material and Recipe optimisation, Component and Manufacturing Process development and Integrated Mechanical and Refractory System design must be combined to achieve the desired performance.
