This paper presents some of the results in applying Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Knowledge-Based Expert Systems (KBES), and Discrete Event Simulation technologies to different aspects of tunneling construction analysis and estimating. A brief introduction on the major problems in tunnel construction estimating and analysis is presented. The basic approach proposed for applying Neural Networks technology to ground classification, construction methods feasibility analysis, and overall productivity rates estimating under geological variability is then described. This paper ends with an indication of areas for further development and conclusions.
