The Netherlands has on its territory nine airbases belonging to the Royal Dutch Airforce and two airfields operated by the Royal Dutch Navy. A noise-exposure zone has been established near these military airfields under the terms of the Aviation Act. The unit of noise exposure for this zone is the cost unit (= Ke).In order to comply with the Aviation Act, the Ministry of Defence is implementing a programme to install sound insulation systems in existing dwellings with a noise-exposure level above 40 Ke and in other existing noise-sensitive buildings (schools and medical establishments) with a noise-exposure level above 35 Ke.
