For both power system operation and planning, it is important to be able to predict the demand. Consequently, much work has been carrie out in the development of techniques for the prediction of real power (MW) demand. To complement these predictions, increasingly it is becoming important to be able to predict the demand for reactive power (Mvar) as cost effective planning of a secure system relies on the optimal location of reactive power resources.
