Avhrr Polar Pathfinder Products: Available From The National Snow And Ice Data Center

The National Snow and Ice Data Center(NSIDC) will be distributing a series of Polar Pathfinder AVHRR products which provide albedo, surface temperature, and ice motion, as well as the supporing data of local time, solar angles, a cloud mask, and calibrated channel values, for both 1.25-km and 5-km resolution. The 1.25-km products cover both polar regions from 1993 through at least 1997, and the 5-km products cover 1983 through 1997. The 5-km products are useful for studies of regional change and monitoring, and the 1.25-km products are useful for detail process studies in regiions of special interest. Examples are included of how these products can be applied in cryospheric studies for the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Data will be available free of charge on 8-mm tape or by ftp upon request.
