This paper discusses four types of high temperature plugging agents (lignin, SB-4, cement, foam) used in Karamay oilfield. The aspects of blocking mechanism, laboratory experiment and field test results are presented. The above-mentioned plugging agents have been tested 40 well-times in IX, VI, and Hongqian areas. The cumulative oil production is decreased by 1.2X10~4t, and the cumulative water production is decreased by 3X10~4m~3. The agents mitigate steam channeling, improve the steam intake profile and increase the steam conformance factor. The organic gels (lignin and SB-4) have a relatively short lift. The small amount of the cement plugging agent is used to block steam channeling and to improve the production situation of the next stimulation. The agents based on cement and clays with high-temperature resistance retardant have the advantage of longer thickening time and low injection risk and can be used to control the profile deeply with a large amount. This inorganic plugging agents have a long life. The foam plugging agent has a low strength plugging and must be injected continuously and has a poor economic benefit because of the expensive high-temperature resistant surfactant and the nitrogen injection equipment.
