Monitoring Steam Injection Performance in Shallow Heavy Oil Reservoirs

It is the basis of reservoir management and performance control to have accurate knowledge about the distribution and moving direction of the steam within the reservoir in the steam injection recovery process. The high resolution 3-D seismic monitoring system has been successfully applied in Karamay oil field, together with temperature profile tests, steam entry profile tests, liquid producing tests, C/O ratio logging and remaining oil monitoring by sealed coring techniques. The obtained information has helped us to develop an improved scheme for further exploiting the reservoir.
