The Birnbaum-Saunders distribution is derived from physical grounds, and has been shown to be the failure time distribution for fatigue failure and for stochastic wear-out failure in general. The control on the lifetime of components subjected to a cyclically repeated stress and strain pattern could base on the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution. In this paper, Monte Carlo simulation techniques and bootstrap methods are developed as tools to obtain the control limits of Birnbaum-Saunders distributed output. Besides, Monte Carlo simulation is again used to evaluate the ARLs for the control charts proposed in this paper. The results reveal that X-bar charts are sensitive to the shift of process, especially when shape parameter is small.
