When the energy consumption is considered in a world-wide scale and on a long term, the utilization of fossil fuels, in particular, that of coal is indispensabl;e even its chemical energy per CO_2 emission is lower than other major resources. Gasification is a most effective reaction to produce H_2 as well as CH_4 directly from coal. For taking advantage of H_2 as the most promising secondary energy source, the loss of coal's chemical energy through the conversion should be minimized.
