The Sponge Iron Process offers a possibility of reforming, conditioning and storing synthesis gases. The advantages in comparison to the low temperature water gas shift are cheap raw material and the generation of pure H_2 containing no CO, CO_2, N_2 and no impurities of biomass synthesis gas. After experiments in a tube furnace device and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of reduction and oxidation processes a small scale sponge iron reactor (SIR) was built to provide all information for a scale up.
