The need for hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources is the key element to the world's large-scale usage of hydrogen and to the hydrogen economy envisioned by the World Hydrogen energy Association. Renewables-produced hydrogen is also the most technically difficult problm to be solved. Hydrogen will never achieve large-scale usage until it can be competitively produced from renewable energy.
