Oil spill contingency planning for offshore oil fields -a new concept established for the norwegian continental shelf

In order to design cost-effective and user-friendly oil spill contingency plans for offshore production drilling and oil production, it is essential to cosider a number of factors which are important for the quality of the plan. Among these factors are good understanding of the fate, behaviour and weathering of the specific oil, relevant oil spill scenarios, drift and spreading of the oil and specific requirements for the effectiveness of the chosen response options.
