The white-rot basidiomycete, Bjerkandera adusta, was cultivated in a liquid medium enriched in L-phenylananine and various phospholipids sources (lecithin, egg ylk, asolection). three aromatic metabolites, benzaldehyde, benzyl alchol and benzoic acid, were biosynthesized under these culture conditions. Important amounts of benzaldehyde (404 mg/1) were only produced when cultures were supplemented with a high concentration (10 g/l) of lecithin.
